The National Employment Law Project recently conducted a review of job listings on Monster.com and CareerBuilder and found 150 ads that included exclusions based on current employment status.
I received this in my email just now, and I’m seething. Monster.com, a website that’s supposed to help people find jobs, have been, for years, knowingly discriminating against their unemployed user base, preventing many people from obtaining jobs at a time when they need it the most.
As someone who is unemployed and looking for work, I had to share this. I know there are a handful of people following me who are seeking employment, as well, and I encourage them to click the link above and sign the petition against Monster.com to stop this sort of practice.
Because it’s horseshit.
well THIS explains a whole fucking lot
well… son of a BITCH!
As someone who actually places ads on Monster.com, Careerbuilder.com, etc…. I can tell you that I’ve never once even noticed an option like this, let alone selected it. I can tell you in my industry that someone who is currently employed is a lot less desirable because someone in that situation would need to give a notice and make other preparations to leave their current job. This would delay my ability to hire them for what I’m searching for. Not to mention, someone who is currently working probably has some kind of saved up personal time, vacation, etc. that might not translate into a new job without some kind of impact to the new company.
Recent work history is obviously important, but only the most tightly regimented client (maybe 1 out of 10) will not accept an explanation that “work in the last 3 years has been more scarce than ever” as an acceptable reason for lengthy unemployment.
TL:DR
I post ads and never knew this option existed, and even if I did I wouldn’t use it.
