Fever Thoughts While Driving Home
Real thoughts in real time 1. 99 Miles Per Hour Van A van blasts past these two dudes at 99 miles an hour. At first they’re annoyed. “Oh what? Is seventy not good enough for you? No way man… Gotta go 99.” But soon they become awed at the thought because the van looked old and dangerously unstable. It’s white, kind of rusty, and far too large for the small wheels...

magnoliapearl: i get annoyed at nerd cred stuff sometimes too, but then, hypocritically, i also get really mad when someone says they looove tom waits and im like “which songs” and they’re like “oh, god’s away on business…. i dont know any others” and i’m like cool what you’re really saying is you love funny… This is so weird. I don’t claim to be a Tom Waits expert, but God’s...

His Dark Materials
I finally got around to reading His Dark Materials, which is a book series that my girlfriend thought I would like, and thus recommended to me something like 8 years ago. Well it took some time, but I finally read it. Actually, I listened to the first two books and then read the third one while my computer was unplugged and I wasn’t able to access the third audiobook. Let me first speak...

magnoliapearl: List of Movies in Order: Who’s That Knocking At My Door. Scorsese’s first movie. Haven’t seen it, know very little about it. Boxcar Bertha. Have barely even heard of this one. Seems like a blip on the radar but may contain HIDDEN GEMS?? Mean Streets. Seen it, but eager to revisit. Alice… This is an awesome idea. I was going to do this with the Ernest movies but...

magnoliapearl: in bad fanfiction (and bad writing) it seems like the author goes to great lengths to avoid using the word “said” “sighed” “muttered” “questioned” etc etc. and if there’s ever a “said” its usually modified as hell. “said humbly” etc etc etc. I HATE THAT!! JUST USE THE WORD “SAID” AND END THE… People perform a lot of actions while they’re talking in fanfic too.

I agree that it does and can! I just worry that when I do that its because I’m losing sight of story and… World building is like quicksand.

Dreams and dreaming
Dream 1: I was working as a grief counselor, but like a talk show style one that doesn’t let people whine for more than a few seconds. My main technique for getting people past their grief is something I called “bottling.” With bottling, you take a day off and lock yourself in a bedroom or study/den for five or six hours with nothing to distract you except your thoughts. Whenever...

Women in my town
There’s something about women in my town. So many of them look completely miserable no matter where they are or what they are doing. They have this look on their face that speaks of a lifetime of disappointment and failure. Also, they wear these deep, constant frowns. It’s like they’ve been so sad or angry for such a long stretch of their lives that their faces can’t even...

Jemaine: No, that's more a man's thing, isn't it?
Bret: Ummm ... no, definitely a woman's thing.
Jemaine: Nah. My father's a women's rights activist.
Bret: Your dad?
Jemaine: Yeah.
Bret: Not your mom?
Jemaine: Mom?? No. Dad wouldn't allow that.
Nah. Weaving's a man's game.

ryankarl: roxorfoxor: adriofthedead: The National Employment Law Project recently conducted a review of job listings on Monster.com and CareerBuilder and found 150 ads that included exclusions based on current employment status.
